We are an informal network of concerned Buddhist
individuals, practising within the sangha of the
FWBO (Friends of the
Western Buddhist Order). What unites us is a belief that any effective
Buddhist practice in today's world must include an ecological
perspective that is fully integrated into our everyday lives.
To this end we are to seeking to formulate a
list of 5 key initiatives, each accompanied by specific practical
proposals, that Buddhists anywhere could undertake, each of which
we feel are both necessary, achievable, and implied by fundamental
Buddhist principles. This core activity is backed up by research
into the environmental implications of the Buddha's fundamental
insight - into Pratitya Samutpada - and the teachings of subsequent
schools.
We aim to provide resources the individual Buddhist
'activist' can make use of in seeking to persuade his or her sangha
to adopt more environmentally-friendly practices.
